Certificate in Housekeeping & Laundry

Course Description:

Functions and roles of the housekeeping personnel; room decoration and maintenance; personnel

work scheduling; fundamental knowledge of materials and cleaning-washing chemicals, laundry

equipment and laundry procedures

Objectives:

  • To understand the role and responsibilities of the housekeeping department in the hotel and other accommodations. 
  • To familiarize myself with the positions, job descriptions and tasks of each position in housekeeping and laundry operation.
  • Can prepare the budget for the housekeeping department; calculate the staff requirement guestroom supplies, linen, and uniform.
  • Know about cleaning chemicals, equipment, cleaning techniques required for public areas, guestrooms and specific areas.
  • Know fabrics, linen used in the hotel and select a suitable uniform for the hotel staff.
  • Prepare inventory for equipment, linen, and uniform.
  • Know about floor maintenance.
  • Be familiar with laundry operation, hotel laundry, and guest laundry.
  • Understand the concept of safety and security in the housekeeping operation.

Duration of Course:            1 ( Academic)  Year ( 2 Semesters)

Duration of Semester:      13 weeks   

Holiday Period:                  4 weeks in between semesters

Internship Period:              3 months

Tuition:

Citizens of the East African Community

- 1st Semester:     910,000 

- 2nd Semester:    780,000

- Internship:         120,000

The above fees cover: 

1. Application fee ( paid once)

2. Registration fee ( paid once)

3. Tuition ( paid every semester)

4. Development fee ( paid every academic  year)

5. Functional fee ( paid every semester)

6. Student Card ( paid once and once its lost the student pays for the new one)

7. Internship.

NB. Hostel fees, Corporate uniforms, meals, transport, study class fees, and any other fee is NOT included in the above fee structure. These shall be communicated during the semesters and in the circular.
